June is Black Music Month and V101.9 continues to pay tribute to the best of the best. Today is extra special as we honor one of the greatest  singers and entertainers of all time.

She was a member of one of the most talented families to ever grace the planet. This is another V101.9 Black Music Month moment. Janet Damita Jo Jackson was the youngest of ten children to Joseph and Katherine Jackson from Gary, Indiana. Her first taste of showbiz happened when she was seven appearing on stage in Las Vegas with her siblings. Soon after, Janet would have a career in acting appearing on the Jackson’s variety show and then being cast in recurring roles on the shows ‘Good Times’ and ‘Diff’ rent Strokes.’

After finally deciding to record music, her first few albums had mediocre success until she teamed up Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis for what would ultimately make Janet Jackson a household name with the release of ‘Control’ in 1986. Since then she has sold over 100 million albums worldwide and has become one of the biggest selling female artists of all time. Janet also has the distinction of being the only artist in history to have seven top five hits from one album.
