June is Black Music Month as we continue to honor some of the greatest artists ever. We end the week with our first Hip-Hop entry who was definitely one of the pioneers of the genre.
Ladies love him and men want to be him. This is another V101.9 Black Music Month moment. James Todd Smith better known as LL Cool J fell in love with Hip-Hop music at the age of nine and started writing his own lyrics and songs a few years later. It wasn’t long after that LL established himself in the Hip-Hop community and ended up creating his own rap style.
His very first album ‘Radio’ released in 1985 was an instant success critically and commercially selling 1.5 million copies and producing hits such as ‘I Can’t Live Without My Radio’ and ‘Rock The Bells.’ Eleven more studio albums would follow with all of them ending up in the top5.
As well as being a rapper, LL Cool J almost equally has had a successful acting career appearing in TV shows, major motion pictures and starring in his own sitcom, ‘In The House’ and NCIS: Los Angeles. V101.9 salutes LL Cool J during Black Music Month.
