June is Black Music Month as we continue our series of the greatest artists to make a profound impact in our lives. Today’s feature is a special one as we are proud to call him one of our own. He is an international R&B superstar and he calls Charlotte home. This is another V101.9 Black Music Month moment.

Anthony Hamilton was born and raised right here in Charlotte, North Carolina singing at a young age in both the school and church choir. After deciding that music is what he wanted to do, he headed to New York City in the early 90s and signed with Uptown Records. His first big moment came in 2002 when he sang the chorus on the Grammy nominated nappy Roots hit, ‘Po’ Folks.’ After a few more collaborations Anthony would find solo success of his own with his second studio album, 2003’s ‘Comin’ From Where I’m From.’ It would reach platinum status and produce his biggest hit single to date, ‘Charlene.’ Mr. Hamilton continues to keep busy in 2012 with a major world tour off he success of his latest album, ‘Back To Love.’
