June is Black Music Month and we end the week featuring one of the most talented groups ever. They are a group out of Boston thought of by many as the original boy band. This is another V101.9 Black Music Month moment.

New Edition who formed back in 1978 ended up finishing in second place at a talent contest put on by producer Maurice Starr who would end up inviting them to record at his studio. The finished product would end up being their debut album ‘Candy Girl’ which would produce two top 10 singles and a tour.

They would go through their share of issues early on including separating from Starr because of financial differences and voting out Bobby Brown because of behavior problems. The positives would however outweigh the negatives including the addition of Johnny Gill, four platinum albums, seventeen top ten singles and massive successful side projects. Today New Edition continues to be as popular as ever reuniting for a sold out 30th anniversary tour.
