June is Black Music Month and today we salute one of the most popular artists of this generation. He was a million selling artist in his teens and is currently one of the biggest entertainers in the world. This is another V101.9 Black Music Month moment.
Usher Terry Raymond IV born in Dallas, Texas appeared on the talent show Star Search at the age of 13 and on the strength of that performance and an impressive audition for L.A. Reid, he was signed to LaFace Records. After a lukewarm debut album in 1994, Usher would team up with producer Jermaine Dupri. The result would be the 1997 album, ‘My Way’ which would go on to sell an astounding six million copies, produce two number one singles and make Usher a superstar.
Along the way he would take up acting appearing in various films and TV shows including, ‘Moesha’, pick up countless major music awards and make history with the release of his biggest album to date, ‘Confessions’ in 2004. It would go on to sell 1.1 million copies in the first week, the highest in R&B history.
Usher shows no sign of slowing down just releasing his seventh studio album, ‘Looking 4 Myself.’
