Alicia Keys is showing her admiration for Oprah by honoring her at the Keep a Child Alive Black Ball event this fall in New York.

In 2003, Keys co-founded the organization to help provide medication and support to those in Africa and India suffering from AIDS/HIV. For the last nine years, the singer has been honoring those celebrities like Bill Clinton and Bono who have done their part to support the cause. This year Keys is honoring Oprah Winfrey, who according to Forbes has given over $80 million for good causes across the globe.

Oprah has been helping the AIDS movement since 1987 when she hosted an episode of her talk show dedicated to Mike Sisco, a gay man who was infected with the disease and was later shunned by his West Virginia town for using the community pool.

Oprah has always put her celebrity status to good use from helping with the Hurricane Katrina recovery effort to funding numerous causes in South Africa including the school for girls she opened in 2007.

The ninth annual charity event will take place on November 1 at New York’s Hammerstein Ballroom.

Alicia just released her latest single, “A New Day,” off her upcoming album. She has not announced an official release date for her as-yet-untitled album.
