The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences 64th Primetime Emmy Award released their 2012 award nominations today and the Showtime series Homeland came away with 5 Emmy nominations; including Claire Danes for Outstanding Lead Actress In A Drama Series and Damian Lewis for Outstanding Lead Actor In A Drama Series.
Producers of the hit psychological thriller chose to film the series in and around Charlotte because of North Carolina’s 25% film incentive and the Queen City’s ability to double for Virginia and parts of Washington, D.C., where the series is set.
Homeland premiered in October of 2011 and was met with critical acclaim. It garnered a Golden Globe for its first season and was promptly renewed for a second.
Filming is currently on-going around Charlotte. You may have noticed the occasional closed street or the obscure film truck parked discretely around the uptown area.
Homeland’s main competitors Emmy Sunday are two AMC favorites, Mad Men and Breaking Bad.
The 64th Primetime Emmy Awards airs live Sunday, September 23.
