The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences 64th Primetime Emmy Award Nominations were released today. There are a lot of great TV shows out there and some of our favorite shows and actors have been recognized for their work this season.
Actor extraordinaire Don Cheadle is nominated for Outstanding Lead Actor In A Comedy Series for his role as Marty Kaan of Showtime’s House of Lies. The Academy Award nominee, received his first Emmy nomination in 1998 for his portrayal of Sammy Davis, Jr in the HBO original film The Rat Pack. This year, Cheadle is up against other talented performers like, 30 Rock’s Alec Baldwin and Two and A Half Men’s Jon Cryer.
The lovely Loretta Devine is nominated for Outstanding Guest Actress In A Drama Series for her role as Adele Webber on the long-running series Grey’s Anatomy. This talented stage and screen actress received her first Emmy in 2011 for the Grey’s Anatomy character.
Idris Elba is nominated for Outstanding Lead Actor In A Miniseries Or A Movie for his work as John Luther in the BBC America series Luther. Elba won a Golden Globe in the 2012 ceremony for his work on the show. An accomplished television, stage, and screen actor; Elba first won our attention for his brilliant work on the HBO series The Wire.
The Modern Family crew comes in strong again! A favorite at awards time, Modern Family received several nominations including Outstanding Comedy Series and Outstanding Directing. Julie Bowen and Sofia Vergara face off for Outstanding Supporting Actress In A Comedy Series. While the men of Modern Family dominate the Outstanding Supporting Actor race with Ed O’Neill, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Ty Burrell, and Eric Stonestreet each receiving a nomination.
Other fan favorites nominated for 2012 Emmy Awards are HBO’s Curb Your Enthusiasm, NBC’s 30 Rock, Showtime’s Homeland, AMC’s Mad Men, and newcomer Zooey Deschanel for Fox’s New Girl.
The 64th Primetime Emmy Awards airs live Sunday, September 23.
