State Street Pictures, the masterminds behind box office hits like Soul Food; Men of Honor; Barbershop I & II; Rollbounce; and Notorious have put together an all-star cast for their upcoming film The Inevitable Defeat of Mister and Pete.

Currently filming, the roster includes vocal heavy-weights and recent weight-loss champions Jennifer Hudson and Jordan Sparks, along with dramatic wonders Anthony Mackie (She Hate Me, The Hurt Locker) and Jeffrey Wright (Source Code, Cadillac Records).

According to IMDB, the film is a coming of age story about two inner city youths, who are left to fend for themselves over the summer after their mothers are taken away by the authorities.

Many singers have been bit by the acting bug and some are actually quite good; consider Hudson’s 2006 Oscar win for her showstopping performance as Effie Murphy in Dreamgirls. Jordan Sparks is featured in the upcoming remake of Sparkle alongside the late singer and actress Whitney Houston. Even the “bad girl” of hip pop music, Rihanna, flexed her acting muscle in this year’s Battleship.
