Did you know that The Bar-kays were chosen by Otis Redding to play as his backing band? In 1967 all but two members of the group were killed on the plane that crashed with Redding…the charted plane could only hold seven…James Alexander was on another plane and is the only original member with the Bar-Kays today. He is also the father of the award-winning rapper and record producer, Phalon ”Jazze Pha” Alexander, who was named after Phalon Jones the original Bar-Kays Sax man.
