Get some tips on how you don’t have to spend a ridiculous amount of money by going to the movies!

.) Buy your tickets in Bulk.  Websites such as www.bulktix.com offer tickets that you can purchase for $7-8 dollars that can be used at your local movie theater.  Or, you can go to AAA, Costco, and other retail chains to purchase bulk tickets for around $7 a ticket as well.

.) Certain movie theaters always offer cheaper tickets based off of playing movies that have previously been released a month or two beforehand.  Cinemark 10 in Matthews, NC, is an example, where you can watch a hit movie for only $1-3 dollars depending on the night.  And they also offer food coupons and other perks like Kids Watch Free movie nights for you to bank on.

.) Remember to use your discounts when purchasing tickets.  Senior citizens, students, military personnel, and young kids/babies typically offer discounts to the hefty adult priced tickets.

.) Tickets are typically cheaper during the morning/early afternoon, called matinee movies, and during workdays.

.) If you have a large pocketbook or jacket, then you can bring in candy, small food in bags, or bottled drinks without paying for the over-priced concessions up front.

.) Downgrade from IMAX/3D.  I would only watch the best movies you really want to see in these formats, and stay with normal HD 2D if you are trying to save some money.

.) Concession stands might offer deals for kids or popcorn bucket returns.  Even if you are an adult, purchase kid concessions so you aren’t eating a ton and its cheaper than a huge drink and popcorn for over $10.

.) Sign up for the movie theater’s reward program.  A manager or customer service representative at the front of the movie theater can show you how to sign up for deals that you receive via e-mail.

.) Newspapers, and even radio stations like ours, give away tons of free movie tickets to special screenings before a movie is even released.  Be sure to listen to V1019 or check out our contests page to see if we are giving away any!

.) Rent A DVD!  You don’t even have to go to every movie that comes out to theaters.  Stay at home and watch one of your favorite films, or use a DVD box like Redbox/Blockbuster to get a hit movie for around $1!
