Cinco De Mayo is almost here, and if you’re still planning to have a party in honor of Mexico beating the French in Battle of Puebla (or just an excuse to drink tequila and Corona), here are some last minute tips to help you plan your Hispanic themed party!
On this week’s Money Saving Monday, we discuss ways you can save money on your annual Cinco De Mayo party!
*) Have your friends over for a ‘pot luck’ themed meal. Friends and family can bring over Mexican inspired dishes for everyone to share, and you can supply all of the beverages (or vice versa).
*) Mexican inspired food is pretty inexpensive. Load up on canned beans, sour cream, and shredded cheese this week by using coupons at certain grocery stores. Or, visit local hispanic grocery stores to get authentic supplies that you need for cooking a great meal.
*) Build your own pinata. Just google how to build one, and it can actually be a fun activity for your kids along the way.
*) Get your party supplies at a place where you can buy in bulk like BJs or Costco. Some party chain stores like Party City might offer deals on Cinco de Mayo themed party gifts and supplies, especially as the date gets closer to the 5th of May.
*) Class up your drinks for cheap. Place lime juice and salt on the rim of your margarita glasses, or find fancy ways to garnish your limes in your drinks.
*) Buy bigger fruit like watermelon and pineapple to chop up and serve as appetizers. You can get a lot more fruit out of the dish and can be better to pass in a group setting.
